The Why Behind the What

Hi! My name is Ash Leigh👋🏼

I manage this small fleet of privately owned cars that i rent to fund my animal rescue project, The Wet Nose Project I not only rescue animals off the street, I also get them all fixed up, rehabilitated and adopted. I have changed the lives of hundreds of animals but i can’t do it without money which was why I founded Costa Rica 4x4 Rentals as a way to fund my project.

Many animals don’t get adopted right away, this is the case of 50 animals that live with me. I do not have a shelter, they all have a space in my home. They need vet care and food and what I earn from the rentals makes sure that no one goes hungry.

How We Got to Where We Are Today

I probably rented out my first car in 2018, but I have content on my page from late 2019 already, that was way before I knew anything about cars, renting them or even social media. So I’ve been around.

I don’t know how I came up with the name, it just seemed obvious to me. I designed my own logo, it was based on the old Isuzu Trooper we had which just seemed to embody the whole adventure without boundaries theme.

The business idea has evolved a lot in the last few years while the main theme has always been the same: all the cars are individually and privately owned, and duly insured as rental cars, the commission I make goes to feed, castrate, rescue and rehabilitate as funds allow.

I also do not employ staff. We are a team of independent service providers who work together amicably to ensure the smooth running of the services we provide. Ask our clients, it’s seamless and always improving

I’ve learnt a lot about cars, accidents, clients and insurance and I always am 100% fair never favouring either the clients or the owners since I only exist because of both groups.

I started with old cars. Old, old cars and tried to move my way up. I tried to imitate the conventional rental companies with Jimny’s and Suzukis but I’ve realised that mine isn’t a conventional business model. I keep coming back to the old cars because what people want is cheap and reliable. I can do that with an old car EASY.

My values have become to provide a quality product for a competitive price and providing a level of service that most others in the industry simply do not provide.

When people compare quotes they’re usually only comparing the bottom line and they forget to compare:

  • 🌴Is this a socially responsible company?
  • 🌴Commitment to the customer. Will we give your car to someone else? Will be overbook? Do we have the gall to send you away?

      • While smaller companies may have less financial resources to throw at paid advertising, we’re still just as good and sometimes even better than the big guys. Next time you look for a car rental I encourage you to look beyond the advertising and billboards and look for the smaller brands. We have so much value to offer.
